Shocking Quiz Results

Just kidding! My results confirm that I truly am a social worker at heart.

Multimedia Mizz

Now I know why we have not gotten rid of our hundreds of space taking up CDs. Mizz has recently discovered them and likes to pull them down one by one. Yes! The way I figure it, this new discovery will amount to hours of free, easy entertainment. Which is a good thing, because the boy won't watch TV! I have avoided the tube until recently (in part because of the AAP recommendations but mainly because my mama sense tells me kids his age don't really have much to gain from it). But, as a flight to Chicago approaches, I have been frantically trying to come up with viable Mizz distraction toys, activities, drugs...that will keep him happily occupied for as long as possible. Mizz however, is not cooperating (surprise!) and has no interest in watching TV. Well that's not completely true. Now that he has learned how to turn it on, he is really interested in turning it on and off, and on and off, and so on. He also likes to hit the screen. Mizz slows down for nothing. TV is not going to do it and I fear the threat of possible turbulence is not going to keep him in his seat either.

Regrets

I'm the first one to admit when I have made a mistake. The most recent follies include: Mistake #1 Buying a huge bag (think Costco) of Halloween candy a month before Halloween. Mistake #2 Promptly opening the bag and digging in. It is a seemingly bottomless bag, but I am seemingly trying my hardest to find the bottom.
Mistake # 3 was walking all the way to Mizz's daycare, picking him up, and then remembering that I had parked at work. We had a great time riding the train to retrieve the car. I was sure that the extra 15 minutes would do us in on the trip home, but Mizz was remarkably not tired/cranky and we ended up having a great discussion. It involved mainly me imitating his babbling and him cracking up.

Here I go again...

I know I am a broken record about this, but isn't he getting big so fast? I am constantly blown away. While I was washing some dishes, Mizz decided to climb in and test out his ride in a new way.

Music Man

Mizz loves music. Which is cool because I love music. The problem (and I suspect it is going to be an ongoing one) is that we have different tastes in music. At this point I like any music that could not be called a nursery rhyme. Unfortunately, the Mizz likes only nursery rhymes. I have been doing experiments though and have been able to find some common groud. The Beatles, Madonna (oddly her dance tracks used to put him to sleep!), and Green Day have been good bets for keeping both of us happy on our daily jaunts. What is it about nursery rhymes? That is besides, the cutesy voices, the repetition, and of course the rhyming. I suppose the same mechanism that won't let them out of my head is reassuring and familiar to a little guy who has so much to learn every day. I have for the most part been indulgent and now can sing several versions of Little Miss Muffet and Humpty Dumpty. And really baby music is an amazing thing. The Mizz is tired after daycare which usually means he is extra cuddly. Today we sat for a long time and snuggled while I sang and he ate it up. I have an audience of one who adores my singing! Clearly, it's worth "I've been working on a railroad" piping through my head at 3:30 in the morning.

Clock Watch

Not me, Mizz. Mizz is obsessed with his Kit Kat clock and won't do anything else unless the eyes are shifting and the tail is swinging. This is a problem since it is a battery sucker and keeping it well charged and swinging is not always on the forefront of my mind. Fewer and fewer things are slipping past Mizz these days. He continues to insist that I turn on all the lights upon our arrival. He clearly understands and replys (!) to questions like "do you want to go for a ride?" or "where are your shoes?" I love it! Another major bonus is that he is starting to bring me things instead of putting them straight into his mouth. Well almost, this morning I caught him chewing on a cat claw. Gross. He very amiably parted with it though as well as the sharp can lids he found at the park. He is swift and definitely makes me work for my money. He gives adorable kisses now which works for me.

I Saw the Fish Fly

Mizz threw his food farther than I've ever seen him throw anything today. He also slammed it and swiped it off of his tray. The strange thing is, I think he liked the fish and he actually ate a good chunk of it. I have yet to decipher his screening criteria for what goes in his mouth and what goes on the floor. Bruce Lee was thrilled though and somewhat redeemed himself by eating a good deal of it. Mizz completed the meal by finger painting with his yogurt. I have been giving him more access to his food recently with the hope that he will begin using a spoon for something other than chewing on.
